“New Year, New Me!” is the common theme heard around offices and social gatherings worldwide at the start of every New Year. The NRP Social Committee wanted to encourage everyone to create healthier eating habits and activities that engage everyone in becoming happier, healthier, and more enthusiastic in the workplace. The Health & Fitness drive for 2017 is to encourage healthier lifestyle behaviors for all. As a whole we wanted to help everyone adopt or maintain a healthy way of living as well as try our best to be consistent–like saying “no” to donuts! We introduced the “Healthy Snack Club,” every Wednesday two or three employees sign up to bring healthy breakfast or snack items for the office, and so far it’s a big hit. Assortments of heart healthy snacks have been on display the past three weeks and it is growing in popularity!
Partnering with our healthy snack Wednesdays we have implemented “Walking Buddies.” Those interested were paired up with another employee and encourage each other to walk outside or in our office gym for 10-15 minutes a day. Not only is it a good way to get your body moving it promotes positivity in the workplace and relives stress. A positive wellness culture during the workday can contribute to better health – physical, mental, and emotional well-being for each employee. It also helps that incentives will be given to those teams who get out and move the most!
